History of Kashmir: According to folk etymology, the name "Kashmir" means "desiccated land" ( Ka means water and shimeera means desiccate).” located between the Karakoram and the Pir Panjal Range. it is stated that the valley of Kashmir was formerly a lake.The lake was drained by the great rishi or sage, by cutting the gap in the hills at Baramulla (Varaha-mula).The greeks called it “Kasperia”. The /chinese traveller Huin Stang entitled it “Kas Mi Lo” termed as “ Cachemir” by burnier natively called “Kasheer” & most popular as Kashmir acroos the nations.it consists of Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Srinagar districts.
